 Crash on Canberra Avenue slows traffic

Traffic slowed to a crawl for drivers on their morning commute on Wednesday following a crash in Fyshwick.

Drivers travelling towards the city from Queanbeyan experienced extended commute times and were encouraged to avoid the area.

The motor vehicle crash occurred on Tom Price Street just after 8.30am.

ACT fire and ambulance services were on scene shortly after.

The accident has since been cleared and traffic is moving steadily again.

Skywhale hot air balloon grounded after developing tear 'in one of her breasts'

Canberra hot air balloon sculpture Skywhale has been grounded and is set to undergo repairs after developing a tear "in one of her breasts" in Ballarat this weekend. The famous balloon and its partner, Skywhalepapa, were both in Ballarat as part of the touring Every Heart Sings project, but were deflated before lift-off due to the damage Skywhale sustained. Audit of ACT death certificates uncovers more COVID-19-related deaths in Canberra

 An audit of death certificates has revealed COVID-19 played a role in killing 61 more people in Canberra than previously thought. ACT Health has adjusted its official tally of COVID-19-related deaths to 224 since the beginning of the outbreak in 2020 — a 37 per cent increase. Chief Health Officer Kerryn Coleman said the under-reporting was the result of doctors submitting death certificates to the ACT registrar of births, deaths and marriages, but forgetting to report COVID-19-related deaths to ACT Health.
