Bridget McKenzie gave Sport Australia final list of grant projects in caretaker period

Sport Australia received the final list of projects to be given grants from the former sports minister Bridget McKenzie 17 minutes after the government entered the caretaker period and one day after it was sent to the prime minister’s office.

Sport Australia officials revealed at a Senate inquiry hearing on Thursday that McKenzie chose not to fund 164 projectsthe agency had recommended on 3 April 2019, sending a final list at 8.46am on 11 April, 17 minutes after the governor general prorogued parliament before the 2019 election.

The child's mother, who asked to remain anonymous, said her nine-year-old fell at least 4.5 metres after he was disconnected from his safety harness at the Flip Out centre near Canberra Airport.  Once home to ageing office blocks, an inward-facing shopping centre and sun-baked open-air car parks, Woden town centre is undergoing a personality change. The 2015 master plan for the area, and the promise of an extension to Canberra's light rail, has kickstarted urban infill and a growing culture of apartment living. The population of Phillip — in which the town centre lies — almost doubled from 2016 to 2021, with most of the extra residents living in newly built apartment blocks. Audit of ACT death certificates uncovers more COVID-19-related deaths in Canberra

 An audit of death certificates has revealed COVID-19 played a role in killing 61 more people in Canberra than previously thought. ACT Health has adjusted its official tally of COVID-19-related deaths to 224 since the beginning of the outbreak in 2020 — a 37 per cent increase. Chief Health Officer Kerryn Coleman said the under-reporting was the result of doctors submitting death certificates to the ACT registrar of births, deaths and marriages, but forgetting to report COVID-19-related deaths to ACT Health.
