ACT to scrap mandatory isolation for household contacts of COVID-19 cases from Wednesday

Image
The ACT's quarantine requirements for household contacts of people who have COVID-19 will ease next week. The ACT government announced today that the restriction would lift from 11:59pm on Tuesday, April 26, bringing the territory's mandatory isolation rules in line with those of New South Wales and Victoria. The change means household contacts will no longer have to isolate from home for seven days, as long as they do not have any COVID-19 symptoms. However,  they will still be required to minimise their movement in the community and comply with some rules.  Canberra's WorkSafe watchdog has warned parents and carers to report any safety concerns at play centres after a boy fell off a rock-climbing structure last weekend. The child's mother, who asked to remain anonymous, said her nine-year-old fell at least 4.5 metres after he was disconnected from his safety harness at the Flip Out centre near Canberra Airport. The boy fell from what the centre calls its "clip and climb" structure, which WorkSafe ACT issued a prohibition notice to temporarily close after the incident. "I saw my son coming towards me with just blood everywhere, coming out all over his face and things," she said. Mark Wallis, 47, pleaded guilty to three charges, including using his corporate credit card for personal purchases and forging a document. The fraud was discovered five years ago, around the time he left the CSIRO, at first on sick leave. The court heard he had not been getting along with his immediate manager and he complained of bullying.
