Former president of Gungahlin United Football Club found guilty of 60 charges of theft from club

 The former president of the Gungahlin United Football Club has been found guilty of stealing more than $31,000 from the club. The ACT Magistrates Court heard Aaron Alexander, 50, spent the money on his personal car lease to the tune of $8,000, at a jeans shop, a pet shop and the movies. Magistrate Glenn Theakston also found him guilty of spending the money on fines. The court heard Alexander had been in control of the club's finances between September 2016, when the treasurer left, and July 2018 when he was stood down. AEMO warns of power 'gaps' in Australia's biggest grid within three years as coal exodus gathers pace

 Electricity supplies are forecast to fall short of demand within three years across Australia's eastern grid, unless new renewable energy and transmission capacity is urgently brought online, according to an official report. In its latest 10-year outlook for the national electricity market, to be released today, the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) warns of reliability "gaps" affecting New South Wales from 2025 and Victoria, Queensland and South Australia by the end of the decade. The warning from the government agency follows a period of turmoil in the market, which has been buffeted by soaring coal and gas prices fuelled by Russia's invasion of Ukraine and higher-than-usual demand.  Once home to ageing office blocks, an inward-facing shopping centre and sun-baked open-air car parks, Woden town centre is undergoing a personality change. The 2015 master plan for the area, and the promise of an extension to Canberra's light rail, has kickstarted urban infill and a growing culture of apartment living. The population of Phillip — in which the town centre lies — almost doubled from 2016 to 2021, with most of the extra residents living in newly built apartment blocks.
